Sivuyisiwe Giba is an award-winning film director and producer from the Eastern Cape, South Africa. She is the co-founder and director of SivuBuhle Media, a documentary and multimedia production company based in the Eastern Cape.
She has produced and directed her first 2-part documentary called “uHadi”, which is about a traditional, indigenous musical bow instrument. She was a board member of the Documentary Filmmakers Association for two years, advocating for the Eastern Cape documentary community. She is currently the coordinator of docLOVE EC where she facilitates screenings and conducts film workshops in partnership with EC Film Hub. She was also a board member of Sunshine Cinema, a solar-powered NGO, advocating green energy within the film and media space for social impact. She has obtained a diploma in International Marketing Management and a degree in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation as well as NQF4 in Film and TV Production.
Sivuyisiwe has over 12 years of film industry experience, including working as an Assistant Director in various feature film productions such as "Black Sails" and "Mad Max – Fury Road." She was also a local cast and extras coordinator for "KaalKagat Karel" and a production developer for a documentary TV production series called "Siyaya Come Wild With Us," which airs on DSTV. She won Best Documentary Class of 2013 at the Cape Winelands International Film Festival. SivuBuhle Media’s first documentary film, where she was an Assistant Director, called “Xoma Aob – Son of The Soil” got an official selection at the Gauteng Film Commission Festival “Woman Online Film Festival 2020.”
Sivuyisiwe is passionate about cultural and indigenous stories, especially authentic rural and cultural narratives that reflect the heart of the community. She is also fervent about youth development in the film and digital media industry.
